The Bulgarians lost only one match throughout the entire event to claim the $80,000 lion’s share of the prize pool.
SKADE beat Copenhagen Flames in a quick 2-0 series on Overpass and Nuke in which they didn’t let their Danish rivals score more than 10 rounds in both maps combined.
Earlier in the playoffs, both of the finalists upset teams invited straight to the tournament's quarter-finals, with SKADE knocking out favorites Vitality while Copenhagen Flames took out ENCE, a team used to fighting in the mud against tier 2 opposition, albeit with Kamil "KEi" Pietkun as a stand-in for Pavle "Maden" Bošković in the first map of the two-map series.
SKADE and Copenhagen Flames, the two last top 20 teams in contention, then took out Tricked and Dignitas in the semi-finals to set up an exciting grand final that would decide who would claim the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize pool, a top-heavy 80-20 split among the top two teams in the event.
SKADE completed the playoff gauntlet without dropping a single map
The grand final itself didn’t end up living up to the billing, as Copenhagen Flames tripped up at the finish line and went missing in the title bout, scoring only four rounds on the defending side of Overpass before being wiped out 16-4 in the second half of the Bulgarian team’s map pick.
The team led by veteran Kamen "bubble" Kostadinov, who recently became the player with the most maps played on record after overtaking Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas, didn’t let up on Nuke and took no prisoners as they ran to a quick 16-6 victory, making it a clean playoff run with no maps lost and only one defeat in the whole tournament, which came at the hands of KOVA in the opening round of the Swiss group stage.
"This was the easiest final I’ve ever played in my life out of over 2000 maps," bubble said in the post-match interview. "They tried to anti-strat us but this time I was prepared," the 30-year-old added before praising his teammates, "everyone stepped up individually."
